To combat dry skin, we first need to understand what causes it.

We can blame it on a number reasons:

P.S. Let us know if you find this article helpful in the comments section below and we will continue to make more.

1. Olive Oil & Honey

Olive oil can be used to treat lots of skin problems. It is packed with antioxidants such as vitamin E and vitamin K which are known for their anti-aging properties as well as being effective at drawing moisture into your skin. Use sparingly as it can leave the skin greasy if too much is applied.

Honey is also loaded with nutrients and antioxidants which help moisturise and fight bacteria due to its healing compounds. This makes it great for keeping your skin healthy.

2. Avocado & Honey

Avocado has become infamous in the heath and beauty world, it’s many health benefits are well publicised. We all know how good it can be for our bodies when eaten as part of a healthy diet. But, yet it is also effective at keeping our skin fresh and supple. It is packed full of antioxidants which not only keep our pores bacteria free but also combat the effects of aging. Avocado is used in everything from hair conditioners to face creams and bath oils.

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of our all-time favourite home remedies for dry skin due to the many uses it provides. Not only is it great to cook with but it can be applied to your skin as an effective moisturiser. This is because it can penetrate hair better than other oils so is brilliant at clearing out your pores from dirt and dry skin as it is antibacterial. Coconut Oil is effective at increasing your skin’s hydration by locking in moisture and best of all, leaves you smelling like cookies!!

4. Coffee & Chocolate

A Coffee & Chocolate body scrub can decrease facial puffiness, brighten skin and invigorate your complexion. This is the most controversial tip on our list as it contains sugar which some claim is too rough and damages the skin rather than reinvigorate it. Others argue that this is necessary to cleanse the skin of dead cells and other bacteria. We have decided to include it for two reasons, to balance out the list (it’s oil and cream focused) to give you as many options as possible but also because everyone’s skin is different and what might be too rough for one person’s skin, won’t be effective enough for someone else’s. Try it for yourself and let us know in the comments below how you got on.

5. Sour Cream

Because it is a milk product, sour cream is full of lactic acid which is used in several high-end beauty products as it contains skin enriching features. Not only does it exfoliate the skin and help it keep moisturized but it also boosts the production of collagen. This protects the skin by preventing absorption and spreading of pathogenic substances, environmental toxins, micro – organisms and cancerous cells.

6. Egg White

Another superfood, eggs are better known as a high protein source for healthy diets, but did you know they can have a positive effect when used on your skin? This rich source of protein helps tone skin and reduce wrinkles. It will shrink your pores and keep your skin taut. The egg white forms a protective layer which allows cuts and burns to heal. It also works well at controlling oily skin which is beneficial to anyone suffering from acne.

7. Safflower & Castor Oil

Castor Oil is a miracle worker when it comes to keeping your skin looking youthful and hydrated. It promotes the production of collagen and elastin, which helps delay the appearance of wrinkles.

Safflower Oil is lighter than coconut and olive oil so some may find it a more suitable facial moisturizer. It is odorless which will suit those who prefer a neutral scent.Yet another benefit of Safflower Oil is that it helps strengthen skin cells so works as an anti-inflammatory.

8. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is used in many skin care products because of its ability to stimulate healthy cell growth and repair damaged tissues. It’s natural properties help keep the skin nourished with essential vitamins. An added benefit of Aloe Vera is that it acts as a natural barrier, shielding our skin from dangerous toxins and locking in moisture.

9. Almond Oil

Almond Oil is one of the most nutrient-packed home remedies for dry skin. Its many nutrients include vitamin A, B, D and E, as well as antioxidants, monounsaturated fatty acids, proteins, potassium, and zinc. This makes it perfect for skin care products and with the added benefit of being odorless, it is suitable for those who want to avoid a greasy aroma.

10. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil isn’t actually an oil, it’s a liquid wax which is known for its healing and nourishing qualities. It is light and absorbs into the skin without feeling greasy, this makes it perfect for sensitive skin types as it avoids any allergic reactions. It is packed with vitamin E, B-complex, copper, zinc, selenium, iodine, and chromium.
