Our skin comes under daily assault from all kinds of things in the air and the environment that we work, live and relax in – the most common side effect of this is dry skin. Heat, dust and sand particles can wreak havoc on the only external protection that your body has, so how do you give it a helping hand? Instead of looking around the stores for the perfect moisturizers for dry skin, let us show you how you can make your own at home.
Not many people realize that they have everything they need already, in the home, to achieve beautifully soft skin. Your skin is pretty amazing and you will want to take care of it in the best way that you can. What natural ingredients make good moisturizers?
Olive Oil – Being kind to skin for thousands of years.
You may have heard about the benefits of olive oil before and how it can help moisturize your skin. But how do you use it effectively? Most of us keep olive oil in our kitchens, and we already know how great it tastes on salads and for general cooking too.
The oil contains antioxidants and fatty acids (the good kind, don’t worry) that are great for your skin. Some store bought skin moisturizers are only meant (or so they say, to sell other products) for certain areas of the body but olive oil can be used all over your body. Perfect for soothing and conditioning dry skin, olive oil is much more than just a condiment.
Here are two ways to use olive oil to really give your skin a treat:
- If you have a favored moisturizer, you can just dab a modest layer of olive oil (extra virgin if you can) over your body before applying.
- 30 minutes before taking a shower, rub olive oil into anywhere that your skin becomes dry; such as your legs, hands, face etc. and softly massage it in.
Milk Cream – Can help you feel like royalty.
Cleopatra and Elizabeth the first swore by milk baths, saying it helped keep their skin beautiful and supple. Today these kinds of baths aren’t too practical, but milk cream moisturizers are an ideal substitute for dry skin.
Lactic acid, which can be found in dairy products such as milk, helps to exfoliate dry skin. The nature of the milk cream also makes it a perfect weapon in the fight against the harsh effects of the sun on our skin. By this, I mean that not only does it help to preserve your skin’s very delicate pH levels, but it also acts as an ideal moisturizer for dry skin.
Preparing the milk cream for use is very straightforward and can be done in just a few moments. Simply add a few drops of lemon juice into a bowl with one teaspoon of milk and two teaspoons of milk cream. Mix it all together and you have yourself one of the best moisturizers you will ever come across.
Rub this mixture into your skin (this can be applied anywhere), and leave it for at least 30 minutes before taking a shower. You should do this daily and after just a few days you will begin to notice the difference. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!
These are just two of the many wonderfully effective moisturizers for dry skin. Hopefully, we have shown you that moisturizers do not have to be expensive or specialized. Beautiful skin can be yours, with just a few minutes preparation each day.
Remember, prevention is better than the cure. If you cleanse the water you shower in, your body will be able to retain more moisture naturally and your need for a cosmetic solution will be minimal.
