How Your Shower Holds the Key to Managing Your Stress

Take shower to reduce stress

I never thought I would advocate for taking more showers to reduce stress given the state of the planet. But here I am!

Hear me out though… I’ve been in Dubai working at Pure Blue for just over a year now and I’ve obviously gotten myself all the water-saving accessories I can get my hands on. So I feel that the amount of water I use in THREE of my showers is now equal to one of the average person’s in Dubai.

I’m also not talking about becoming an amphibian, the conversation here is about perhaps taking a shower twice daily to stay fresh, reduce stress, and perhaps get that extra energetic kick.

Let’s get to it, now that I’ve proven my ‘qualifications’!

Hot vs cold

Hot water showers in Dubai may feel like overkill at times, but hot water helps to soothe tension and promote relaxation. This is while cold water showers provide a revitalising sensation and stimulates the release of endorphins.

I’ve made it a point to always try to alternate between both. This switching between hot and cold water stimulates blood circulation, relaxes muscles, and invigorates the body and mind. This contrast therapy can help reduce stress, improve mood, and increase overall well-being. I always step out of my hot/cold showers with an extra pep in my step and my eyes just a little more open like I’ve gained a bit of mental clarity.

Ionised water

Ever heard of ionised shower water? Well, let me tell you, it’s like taking a refreshing dip in a pool of relaxation. Not only does it cleanse your body, but those magical ions work their soothing magic on your stressed-out soul too. It’s not exactly magic, although it feels like it. Pure Blue’s water-saving shower heads charge the water right there as it whooshes out! It’s like a spa day in your own bathroom, minus the cucumber slices. Trust me, your stress levels will thank you.

Autopilot brain

I’ve discovered a secret stress-busting technique that we all do without paying much attention to it: Embracing the power of menial tasks! Simple chores or habits like folding laundry or taking a shower sound mundane but here’s the trick: while my hands are busy and my brain is set on autopilot as you perform a task from body memory, you are free to wander and think creatively. There’s a moment of zen there in the shower where things just click. So, don’t underestimate the humble task. Embrace the mundane shower and let your stress dissolve as your creativity takes the spotlight!
